We drove to an area just south of us called Playa Langosta this morning. The houses are very high-end and there is a luxury hotel there – and most of the streets were paved! It was fun to see.
We stopped and walked out to the beach to check it out. This area is part of Parque National Marino Las Baulas. Surrounding the beach are mangroves that are also part of the National Park. Between March and November there are nesting areas of leatherback turtles on the beaches of this protected area. The water in the picture below is where a river comes out of the national park area into the ocean. While the water was COLD and there were signs warning about crocodiles, there were still people swimming in the water. There were also lots of rocks and small tide pools. We only spotted a few tiny fish and a couple of small crabs. We went back to “our beach” and hung out for a while before heading to one of the food courts for lunch. Tobey and I split an order of ceviche which was okay, but not nearly as good as what we have had in Mexico. Ann and Gary enjoyed their meal, so it was a win for them. We decided to head back and get out of the sun for a while.
Late afternoon took us back to the beach for swimming and walking on the beach. It’s pretty amazing to see how many people head to the beach to watch the sunset. I’m not sure where everyone was thirty minutes earlier, but they certainly show up to see the sun go down!We have seen these kabob street vendors all over and I really wanted to try them for dinner tonight. We got six of them to take home for the four of us. They are 2000CC each so it was less than $19 for the four of us. They were really yummy!!One thing that has been really frustrating for all of us are how many bug bites we have been getting! I am usually the ONLY person to get bites, but the bugs don’t seem to be as discriminating with their tastes here in Costa Rica and the others have their share of bites, as well. I am glad I had a full tube of hydrocortisone cream when we came because we have all been using it! Tomorrow is our last full day here in Tamarindo so it will also be our last beach day.

Sue, I've had some success in using hand sanitizer on my skin to keep bugs at bay. Won't hurt to try. :-)
I think I would need a gallon jug!
