Rain, rain, and more rain overnight last night! Fortunately, this morning it had stopped and we were able to get everything ready as our travel plans had us on our way to Tamarindo today! This was our view out our kitchen window as we were eating breakfast. We enjoyed having ripe bananas every morning, and a blue-gray tanager found the bananas and was trying to find a ripe one! We stopped in Canas for a short break. There was an interesting church we went in. All along the back wall of the church were rows and rows of these tiny charms. If you look closely, there are body parts like legs, lungs, hearts, and even breasts. I had trouble translating the sign, but from what I can figure, the gist of it was that in 1991, the Presbyterian Priest Juan Carlos Vargas Delgado placed the first image of an angel. Since then, people who wish to make and give anonymously as a favor or promise are invited to give one of these little “charms”. The nearest we could figure was that it may be like donating money and lighting a candle in someone’s honor or as a prayer for them. If you have a better idea, please let me know!!!!After our break, we continued on toward Liberia. We left the volcano – and dense cloud cover – behind and the landscape gave way to fields of hay and sugar cane.We finally arrived in Tamarindo to check in at our VRBO and they informed us there was a problem with our apartment. Great. She was moving us to a different apartment further from the beach. They were apologetic and took us to see it. It was okay, but we wanted to see exactly what was wrong with the one we booked. SO … a trip there and yes, it needed some TLC for sure and the owner was not willing to make the repairs. Back to the rental office, we decided to go ahead and take the replacement apartment if they would make a discount, and they did.
We settled in, changed into swimsuits, and walked to the beach. Even though it was late afternoon, it was a BUSY beach with lots of surfers and people riding horses!Tobey was the only one brave enough to go in the cold water (much colder than Jaco) today. He said it was refreshing, but I think I will wait until tomorrow. We walked quite a way before heading back to the apartment. We caught an early glimpse of the sunset and will just relax this evening. Pura Vida!
