Mexico 2012 RV Trip - Day 50 - Feb.14, 2012 Zipolite - Playa Agua Blanca

We hopped on the scooter and drove about 4 miles through Playa Mazunte to check out the Museum of the Sea Turtles before packing up for Puerto Escondido, but it was closed. The camping guide also said the road was not good for RV’s getting through the town, but we thought it looked better than many we had been on already.  SO …. back to the RV, we packed up and headed out. We had no problems following the beach road back to MEX200 and on to Puerto Escondido.

However, we didn’t make it to Puerto Escondido. Tobey is either getting lazy or he isn’t ready to go north yet, because we only traveled 25 miles before  we ended up stopping for the day! We saw a sign for Playa Blanca and Tobey thought we needed to check it out. Even through the road was gravel, it was pretty good and only 2 KM from MEX 200.  It turned out to be a good decision.
At the end of the road we turned right and found a great spot along the road, next to a restaurant, where we could park for the night. We set up camp, put on swim suits and headed for the beach.
The waves really came crashing in, but it was a fun way to cool down. We were cautious because there was quite a bit of undertow.
There are lots of rock formations along the beach that form tide pool areas where folks swim. We joined this family and visited with them while we enjoyed the calmer waters, also. It is interesting that many of the Mexicans swim with their clothes on, not bothering with swimsuits! They were here from Oaxaca visiting their family.
We watched one guy surfing for a while. He looked like he was really having fun. Neither Tobey or I could figure out how surfers read the waves to know which one will be good.

We decided to have dinner at our little beach restaurant. While we were waiting, the owner and his son came back with seven iguanas they had caught with sling shots! They cook them with chilies and told us they were quite tasty.

We chose the fish dinner and camerones dinner (shrimp) for $175 peso including tip (about $13.75 USD). Camping cost –  zero. The only downside, no internet.
Maybe we will make it to Puerto Escondido tomorrow!

OOOHHH more pretty food. Looks yummy, how's the flavor? I think Tobey isn't in a hurry to head norte, I know I wouldn't be. Take care and have fun. Lots of love, B
