This morning was sunny again, even though the temperature was about 39. We drove back to where the guys quit last night so they didn’t miss any miles. The first 10 miles were on I-8 and they had a 2500 foot drop to the Hwy 98 exit. Tyler said that while it was fun, it was a let down to start their day with this part of the ride instead of not being able to finish yesterday with this descent. The canyon they went through was rocky on both sides and a winding road. Trucks had a 35 mph speed limit on the descent!Once they dropped out of the hills, we came to a large wind farm. Fortunately, the turbines weren’t moving very fast today!Once they got onto Highway 98, they had miles of rolling hills, but not the huge gains in elevation they have experienced over the last couple days.We are still very close to the border and saw several border control trucks along the road.Forty-six miles into the ride, they made it to El Centro. The winds picked up as they headed north the last 10 miles into town. We stopped at the Desert Trails RV Resort to refill with fresh water and have a lunch break.
From El Centro their route headed north on Old Highway 111 toward Brawley and they continued to have headwinds making it a rougher ride.We passed through more agricultural areas and saw lots of workers in the field harvesting what looked like cauliflower or broccoli. We also went by a huge solar farm. The last rest stop was in Brawley before their last 10 miles o the day. They hoped to get to Glamis, but covered 75 miles anyway! We loaded bikes and drove to the Imperial Sand Dunes where we are camped for the night. BBQ pork chops, showers, and relaxing were in order for the evening. Early to bed, and hopes of another 75 miles tomorrow.
