One of our youngest blog followers who is three years old had some questions about how we travel and where we sleep, so this is for you, Finley!
Our little RV is a motorhome. In Mexico they call it a “casa rodante” – meaning a house on wheels. It is about 24’ long from the front of the truck to the back. You can see there are 2 front doors and one back door. We have a bicycle hitch mounted on the front and it holds three bicycles – one for Tobey, one for Tyler, and one for me. On the back of the RV we have another hitch with a carrier for our little motorcycle. We have a Yamaha XT250, 250cc motorcycle that we can use when we are camped in towns and want to get around.
On the roof of the RV there is a solar panel that provides the electricity to run our lights, refrigerator, furnace, and charge our computers. There is even an air conditioner that we can use if we are in an RV park and plugged into electricity or have our generator running. We don’t use it very often!
Inside our little house we have a queen-sized bed that is above where we drive the truck. We have a small ladder that we use to climb “upstairs” to sleep. When we are driving we take the ladder down. There is even a curtain that blocks out the front seats so we have privacy. We have a sofa and dining table in the middle of the RV and just behind them is a closet and refrigerator.Next comes our kitchen. We have a stove, oven, microwave and double sink. We don’t have much counterspace, but we manage to cook and get everything done. Sometimes I even bake cakes in our little kitchen! We have a small bathroom, but it even has a bathtub and shower! We have lots of storage spaces above the sofa and dining room, as well as under the dining room benches. We use every little nook and cranny!
I hope this helps you understand how our little house on wheels works, Finley! (and anyone else who wonders how we can get by in 24’ of space!!)
