January 22, 2023 - Cordoba, Argentina

Emi was our tour guide in Cordoba today. We met around noon and walked to one of the Argentine barbeque restaurants for lunch. As we approached, we could see - and smell - the ribs and vegetables grilling outside the restaurant.
Inside, we ordered one veal plate and one pork plate. It's hard to tell, but the top picture is the veal and the bottom was the pork. The seasoning was great and we were stuffed!
After lunch, we strolled toward the Plaza del San Martin, one of the national heros of Argentina. The statue, which is like those found throughout the country is a bronze equestrian monument that sits on an ornate base with bas-reliefs that portray liberation campaigns. He always faces west, toward the Andes Mountains, the route of his epic journey for national independence.

The Catedral de Cordoba, Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion is also located on the plaza. It is another beautiful church here. Because it was the afternoon and Mass was over, the church was locked.

Emi took a picture of us - yes, we "Amo" (love) CBA (Cordoba)!

We don't think it would grow in Colorado, but both Tobey and I said we would love to have this tree in our yard!

We continued back to the parking garage and Emi took us on a tour to the National University in Cordoba. The campus is huge! The public universities in Argentina are free, but you do have to apply and be accepted based on your grades. She attended university there.

The rain started - and continued to get very heavy, so she took us back to our hotel. We shared one of the Alfajores Emi gave us. Oh my gosh - they are so sweet!

We met Emi at the Paseo de las Artes which is not far from our hotel this evening. There are about four blocks of artisans crafts and a flea market - all packed with people. It was fun to walk around and see everything that was for sale. Dinner was at a fun asada restaurant tonight. You might be able to see how hot the coals are in this picture.
Tobey and I again shared a sandwich and fries. Delicious grilled beef with cheese, ham, fried eggs, and a sauce on it. The people in Argentina don't know how expensive eggs are in the US!
Emi had the fried empanadas which looked wonderful.

It was almost 11 by the time we said good night to Emi and we headed back to our hotel. As we came around the corner, there was music on the plaza across the street and people were dancing. We stopped and watched for a while. Many of the women were wearing stilleto heels!
This is a link to some of the dancing, https://youtube.com/shorts/a6vA08pEHd0

This building in the background is a shopping mall. It used to be a school!
Tomorrow is our last morning in Cordoba before we fly to our next destination so we will need to finish packing up again. Good night for now!
