January 14, 2023 - Iguazu Falls, Argentina

After what seemed like another short night, we were on our way to Iguazu Falls on the Argentina side at 8:15 this morning. It was a shorter drive today - only 30 minutes. The admission cost was $5500 pesos per person - also about $16USD each.
We walked from the green entrance on the lower right hand corner of the map along the green trail, then the blue trail. The yellow section is closed due to flooding in 2014 (I think) and has not been fully repaired. Many of the trails are "one way" which helps with the flow of people since the park has up to 10,000 visitors a day during high season which is December to February!
You already know the history, so I will share lots of photos and videos today of the trails, falls, butterflies, birds, and flowers.
The island in the middle of the picture belongs to Argentina.

It was warm today - about 84 degrees and sunny with lots of humidity.

A view of Two Sisters Falls below.
We are looking across to Brazil and the hotel we saw yesterday.

Looking across to the observation tower in Brazil.
Here are some of the birds we spotted today. I have no idea what most of them are, but we enjoyed seeing them anyway!

Our guide thought this might be a kormorant on the rock below.

Another Egret

Vulture

These two birds were on the ground as we were leaving the park. Check out the feet on this guy!

The butterflies loved Tobey today and landed on him many times.

This beetle was so shiny - his back looked like hammered steel!

Cicada shells that were stuck to a tree

I thought the cicadas were really beautiful.

If you want to hear the cicadas, you can see and listen if you click on this link.

This giant spider was eating mosquitos caught in its web!

The blue flower is considered "medicinal." If you squeeze it, a liquid like water comes out and you can use it like eyedrops!

These lizards were peeking up over the rocks facing the falls for a good view!

At the end of the blue trail we walked back to the train station which is where the blue and green trails meet for a ride most of the way back to the entrance. An Argentinian family sat in the same car with us and the son, Bruno, tried to practice his English with us. He was 12 years old and in the 7th grade and seemed to enjoy asking us questions. After we got back, he ran up to his mother who was in another car and we heard him telling her our names and where we were from. We loved it!
Back in town after the tour, we got dropped off near a park so we could walk to the port area to see the bridge that goes from Paraguay to Brazil. Paraguay is on the left side of the bridge, Brazil on the right, and we are viewing it all from Argentina.

We continued on to El Mirador de la Costa Restaurant to get some lunch before heading back to our hotel. Because our Spanish isn't very good and our waitress didn't speak ANY English, ordering was a disaster! They had a hamburger with fries on the menu and one without. We tried to order one of each and a couple soft drinks. She thought we ordered just fries and drinks and this is the huge plate of fries that came. They were good, but we thought the burgers just weren't ready yet so we waited, and waited. FINALLY, I asked her about the burgers and she then put an order in for them, not realizing the mistake. SO ...
Here comes the burger with fries, and I had the one without. They were so big that we both only ate half of one and less than half the fries. We got the rest to go and decided to have the same thing for dinner tonight. I guess it is a bargain if we consider we got four people meals! The burgers were really good and very filling!

Feet rested, bodies refreshed, we walked back about a mile to the hotel. This lizard was trying to eat little fruits that came off one of the palm trees.
Murals were on several walls as we walked, as well. This one is speaking out about being kind and stopping violence.

Our hotel, Jardin de Iguazu, at last! It's nice enough, but our departure in the morning is at 6:20 and breakfast doesn't start until 7:00 and they said they will not make up a breakfast to go, so we will get something at the airport.

It did rain later this afternoon and after it stopped Tobey went out to get soft drinks to go with our dinner. We used the microwave in their dining room for a light dinner which was perfectly fine with us! Early to bed tonight so we can be up for that 6:20 in the morning!!! transfer to the airport!
