February 7, 2019 - Bleakwood, Texas to Oberlin, Louisiana

Day 38 Cross Country Bike Trip

We left Kirbyville and drove back to Bleakwood so Tobey could resume his ride this morning. It was warm, but mostly cloudy. We were told there may be storms today so he was on his way by 8:15!There were more logging trucks on the road again today – fortunately most of they were going the other direction. About 12 miles into his ride, Tobey FINALLY left Texas! I caught up to him so we could get a picture together, too! It’s funny, but we crossed the state line, and the road almost immediately improved – and the speed limit went from 70 or 75 mph to 55! The is hardly any trash on the road, either!Tobey rode 45 miles before we stopped for lunch and a break today. Here he is ready to tackle the last 30 for the day!A good share of the day the wind was a cross-wind or headwind. Not fun, but he is a tough guy.I have seen more Shetland ponies in the far east part of Texas and into Louisiana than I have seen in years. I don’t recall seeing many in Colorado – I wonder why. This afternoon, the storm was close on our heals. Tobey would pass me, I would wait 10-15 minutes, then pass him and stop in 3 miles to check in – just in case it started to downpour! We both got a little rain, but the wind had shifted and he had a tailwind and was able to keep ahead of the worst of it!We arrived into Oberlin, Louisiana about 3 pm after a 74.3 mile ride. We have permission to park at the City Park overnight. One of our biggest challenge’s has been finding locations with internet to post the blog and catch up news. The library is next to the park, so we used that as an opportunity to get caught up.

This is a link that will show all of Tobey’s route so far. https://ridewithgps.com/events/71165-tobey-s-coast-to-coast-ride-2018-2019

On the left side of the map, it shows day by day stop and start points so you can look at each day’s route.

OR you can scroll to the bottom of the day-to-day and there is a box that says “Show all on Map”. If you click that, it will change the map view to show all days traveled so far (but be prepared for a short pause as takes a while for the file to load).
