February 4, 2019 - Navasota to New Waverly, Texas

Day 35 Cross Country Bike Trip

It was 67 degrees when Tobey and Phil started their ride this morning. Notice they are both wearing shorts – comfortable! Mostly cloudy skies helped keep the ride cooler which was nice considering how humid it is here.We had a chance to see wild iris and daffodils blooming along the road as we waited for them at one of our stops. Our lunch break was in the Sam Houston National Forest. Tobey really enjoyed this part of the ride. There wasn’t too much traffic and he said he could really hear the birds in the trees. As we finished lunch, our two young bicycler friends stopped and we visited with them again. Joel  and Eli are from Lincoln, Nebraska and both work for The Bike Rack, a bike shop there. They are taking advantage of the “slow winter” season to take this cross-country trip. Tobey and I may cross paths with them again along the way!The I-45 intersection at FM Road 1375 marked the end of our travels with our friends, Phil and Marcia. Phil rode about 600 miles with Tobey through the Texas hill country to make up what he missed when he and his brother did this trip 14 years ago. I bid a sad farewell to my good friend, Marcia. It was great fun having someone to visit with and share the “support” role these last 17 days. They are heading south to spend time with their son and family before heading back to Colorado. Tobey and I drove to The Woodlands to visit one of his childhood friends, Bruce and Xuemin. We had a great evening and were glad we had the opportunity to see them. Tomorrow we head back north to New Waverly to start the next leg of the journey!
Today’s ride was 43.5 miles. https://ridewithgps.com/trips/31430532
