March 21, 2018 - Rincon de Guayabitos to Teacapan, Mexico

We were on the road by 8:30 this morning, putting in the miles. We went through large areas of fruit stands along the road. Even though we didn’t need anything today, it is fun to see them. As the miles added up, we passed many types of agricultural areas, too. Mango and avocado trees, and even date palms. The hills were terraced with different crops at different levels.Sorghum was also planted along here. It is used as feed for livestock and there were lots of cattle ranches in the area. You have to have cattle for that carne asada!!We found a little taco stand at the entrance to Rosamorada and had lunch there. We decided to drive into the town even though it was off the road, just to check it out. The flowers on the tree on the right side of the photo above reminded me of fluffy pompoms. We have seen these trees with white flowers, too.We could see the steeples to the church a long way off and just keep driving in their direction. The building was beautiful outside and the inside was very simple in comparison.Other than the church, there wasn’t much else to see so we found our way out of town and back to the highway. This was a weird rock formation jutting up along the road.Because we passed so many fields, we also passed some large agricultural processing companies. At Escuinapa de Hidalgo we turned west and south on Highway 1 to get back out to the ocean. Along the way we passed several salt beds. This area still has lots of agriculture – with lots of chili and tomato plants. They were drying chiles in the sun and roasting chiles in the building behind. Many of the workers don’t have cars, so the large farms use old school buses to transport their employees to the fields. We stopped at one beach to check it out for a possible campsite, since the place we stayed before has gone out of business. We walked down to see it and were disappointed. It was a steep beach and strewn with litter, so we decided to go a further south, closer to Teacapan. We ended up at Playa la Tambora and it, too, isn’t great, but it is better. We had to park about a block back from the beach because the sand is too soft for our RV. We did take a long walk down the beach and back. We spotted lots of tire tracks, birds, and shells, but not trash which was nice. We were treated to a beautiful sunset this evening – a nice treat after the 213 miles we went today! We’ll look for dolphins in the morning, but will probably move further north again tomorrow.
