Our walk on the beach this morning revealed a much quieter sight than yesterday – not nearly as many people! After the holiday, many of the local folks had to go back to work. The fish-on-a-stick vendors were out, however, I’m not sure I really want to try them. Unless I see them cooking my fish, they can be sitting on their cart for quite a while. We did like this guy’s “jet ski.” It’s just a blow-up floatie! They were having a great time riding the waves with it. We did see a couple guys who had dug huge holes in the sand and made seats in the sand. It was pretty impressive. They had their umbrellas set up and coolers nearby. We took the motorcycle for a spin before lunch, stopping at the square to get a picture of the Guayabitos sign. From there we headed north to La Penita – the scene of our “crime” six years ago where we went the wrong way on a lateral and were stopped by a motorcycle policeman. No incidents today, I am happy to report! This is a statue on the way into the Centro. We took off through a residential area back in Guayabitos. There were several homes for sale and when I looked online later, many of them are selling for more than $1,000,000USD! Between Rincon de Guayabitos and La Penita a small hanging bridge crosses the Arroyo Guinea River. We spotted this heron just hanging out in the shallow water. As we headed back out of the area, we noticed this artist painting “windows” on the wall surrounding one of the properties. He had three of the “windows” finished and had five to go! They were amazing.Back on the main street we spotted an Uber car – need a ride somewhere? We went to Wanda’s Restaurant for lunch. A couple people told us that they have “the best” barbeque ribs and to get there early before they run out. We split an order which came with coleslaw and French fries. It was good, but not “the best” we have ever had. Guess they have never been to Scooby’s in Melaque!
This afternoon we arranged to have the RV washed and waxed, so we needed to be back to wait for Martin and his crew. They arrived about 2pm – Martin, his wife and their 2-1/2 year old daughter, and two neighbors. He runs quite the mobile RV wash business. He has a huge water tank loaded in the back of his pickup along with a power washer. They did a great job! They supplied the wash, wax, and water and for only $600 pesos. I gave him $700 because I thought they did such a good job. That is less than $39 USD!
We walked back to town for dinner and Tobey spotted a big bus parked in one of the lots with this sign on the front. He wondered if they would miss it if we took it for our RV when he does his cycling trips. We ended our evening with a cajeta crepe. It was a nice finish to a great day! Tomorrow we will have a long drive – over 200 miles – but we need to make northern progress.
