The picnic area we stopped at last night was pretty quiet - until 1am today! We had a knock on our door - the sheriff wanted to know if we had place a 911 emergency call. No, it wasn't us - and it wasn't Phil and Marcia. There were six other RVs parked there overnight and they knocked on every door. We quickly went back to sleep, but it does make you wonder what happened.
We did get up around 7:00 and were on the road by 8:00 am heading to Brady. The order of the day was once again - WIND! It was miserable. The dust and tumbleweeds were blowing across the road, often making it difficult to see.
We did go by lots of cows and cotton fields along the way.
We had our lunch stop in Post, Texas at the city park. Post was founded in 1907 by cereal magnate Charles William Post. It was truly a “dream city”. His vision drew him to one of the most beautiful locations in West Texas – the area where the headwaters of both arms of the Brazos River join to outline the scenic caprock escarpment of the Llano Estacado. It was a busy little town, but today the population is just over 5000 people.
Onward we ventured with our next stop in Ballinger, Texas. We all needed a break to stretch our legs. We walked around the town and found that almost every business closed at 3:00 pm. Of course, it was 3:30 when we stopped! That was okay - it was warm - almost 80 and we enjoyed the walk. Just across from the old railway station was an interesting "antique" sign shop that we enjoyed seeing.
And in the field by the station were some critters enjoying the afternoon sun!
After our break, we continued on to Brady, Texas where we are spending the night. Fortunately, the wind died down and the sun came out. The temperature soared, also and we had to change into shorts! Phil won the dominoes game after dinner, so he was happy! We get to sleep in a little tomorrow since we aren't leaving until 8:30 or so! Yahoo. Goodnight all!
