2024-4-9 - Canyon Lake, Texas to Sandia, Texas

We hit the road this morning about 10:30 after a great stay with Jerry and Donna at their lovely home near Canyon Lake. It was so much fun and we left feeling like we had two new best friends. Phil and Marcia are staying another night before they continue their journey.

We had a short first drive to New Braunfels – about an hour away! We stopped to visit with neighbors from Fort Collins who made their way south to be closer to their families. We had a great visit with Lesli and John Paul and enjoyed a nice lunch out together and had fun catching up before getting back on the road.

Our next destination was Sandia, Texas – north of Corpus Christi. We were visiting with a friend, Mark, we worked with more than 40 years ago in Iowa! It was fun to finally meet his wife, Kim, in person since we have only known her through Christmas cards all these years. We had such a good time catching up and seeing their ranch and the renovations they are making to the house which was built in the 1800s! Mark grilled some amazing steaks – reminiscent of our times together in Iowa. We stayed up way too late – past midnight – but had a great time.

The only bad thing was we clipped one of their tree’s low hanging branches on the way into their place and put a pretty good divot into the driver’s side of the RV’s overhead cab area which we will have to get repaired. We’ll check that out when we get to Port Aransas tomorrow.
