February 9, 2017 - Tulum, Mexico

We got too much sun yesterday, so we had a quiet day around here. We walked  over to the taco stand that sets up by the Old Mayan Church near us for lunch. They only set up Monday – Friday and cater to the local workers. We have eaten there before and we made it just in time before they closed for the day! Tobey had me order two tacos – I picked the beef and onion ones for us. He about gagged … it was LIVER and onion tacos! Not exactly what I would have chosen, but it was difficult to tell WHAT kind of beef it is when it is chopped into small pieces!  I ate his and got him two more – one chicken and one pork!  Oh well, $82 pesos for 4 tacos and 2 soft drinks ($4USD) and we were full.

Cooling off in the pool staying in the shade filled the afternoon. Tobey wanted to try the tamales from a “new” place around the corner from our apartment. It is a family that started a small kitchen last year while we were here and they now have a “permanent” structure built. Tobey got 2 tamales ($24 pesos – $2.25 USD) and we brought them home since I planned to eat leftovers. While they were large, they weren’t that great, but don’t tell the locals – they are busy all the time!So today was an unusual food day for us … we will see what tomorrow brings!
