The scooter decided to have battery problems again and we needed a couple of jump starts to continue our exploration of Guayabitos. Tobey thought we should find a scooter shop to see what is going on. Well, we made a couple mistakes, but it turned out okay. We first turned the wrong way on a lateral street, and they are one-way streets. Yikes. We went a block to the end and a motorcycle cop was waiting for us. He wanted us to follow him to the station and pay a $200 peso fine and he would write us a receipt. OR, he said we could pay him $100 pesos there with no receipt. Tobey asked him to take us to a moto repair shop, because we couldn’t turn the scooter off or it wouldn’t start. He wanted to see Tobey’s license, which was in the trunk. Tobey said we needed the moto repair shop, because he couldn’t turn off the scooter. He didn’t understand us and we just kept talking in English. He finally got frustrated with us and told us that we could come back and pay him later! We headed the other direction and went back to get the RV!
The RV looked great and we loaded the scooter up and headed to Guayabitos to park for the night. The park backs right to the beach, and even though our space isn’t on the beach, we can hear the waves coming in. This afternoon the beach filled with lots of people and activity.
There were all kinds of vendors on the beach, selling everything from food to water toys. This lady had a 3-wheeled bike filled with toys!
After dinner the eight of us walked up to the main street – one block over – and watched the VW parade. There is a big VW rally this weekend and there were all kinds of Volkswagens decked out with huge stereo systems and big motors, as well as some classic Volkswagens. We walked the length of the street – about a mile – and back. Guayabitos was quite the happening place tonight! Tomorrow they are supposed to have some sort of judging and monetary awards.
We know that you shouldn’t drink and drive, but this car had a built in bar in the trunk! It had wine glasses hanging from the trunk, a cooler, and tequila – and more neon lights than you would know what to do with!
On the way back we met a musician who got his guitar and friend with a drum and they played for us. They were quite good and it was fun to watch.
We met a really sweet street dog. He followed us for blocks and stopped to listen to the music with us! He even finished the last of our flan that we got for dessert! He was well-fed and in pretty good shape. I’m sure it’s because he was so well-mannered and had such a friendly personality.
We never did find the moto repair shop for the scooter, so we will need to look for one in the next few days. Today we drove 10 miles and will stay here for two nights.

I have a feeling that your beloved scooter may not be around for your next journey.
If we didn't have to turn in paperwork at the border and "check out," it probably wouldn't make it back to the States! Want to make us an offer on a used scooter??
