Mexico 2012 RV Trip - Day 74 - March 9, 2012 Sayulita - Lo de Marcos

We walked to the beach early to see if the waves were going to cooperate with the surfing competition scheduled to begin today. Seems like a storm off the Baja coast was helping because the waves were much larger today.
There were lots of surfers in and out of the water; the preliminary competition was scheduled for this afternoon. I noticed that most of the surfers with yellow boards were the best this morning. Do you think there is any correlation to the color of the board and ability??

Sayulita has lots of shops with surf lessons available, as well as SUP lessons. SUP is “surfing using a paddle.” It was fun to watch. The surfer paddles out over the waves standing up and use the paddle for turning and adjusting their speed as they ride the waves back to shore.

The judging stand was set up and there were guys checking the sound systems. It looked like it would be a busy place this weekend. They even have live music scheduled for tomorrow. The beach was packed with lots of “Norte-Americanos.”

We decided to drive up to Lo de Marcos and see what it is like. We had heard that it had a better swimming beach than Sayulita. We met an interesting guy, Ruben, from BC, Canada, and chatted with him for a long time. We also walked the beach and talked to another group of Canadians who were RV camped down the road. Tobey tried the water, but it was still pretty rough here and the waves were more than I wanted to try. The biggest difference we noticed between Sayulita and Lo de Marcos is there was hardly anyone on the beach or in the water here! There are lots of people in the RV parks, though.
Heading south on the beach, we spotted a dog that we thought we knew – and it turns out, we did! We met Ben & Beverly and their dog, Jackson, on our second night in Mexico! Jackson was having a blast chasing balls and playing in the water.
We are boon docking again tonight before we head north to Rincon de Guayabitos. The solar panel got lots of sun and our battery is at 100% – yeah! Today’s drive was 12 miles, tomorrow is about the same!
