We went and got massages for $300 pesos each ($23.85USD), then loaded up and headed north because we had miles to cover … 26 of them to be exact! We arrived in Sayulita about 4 pm and looked at a couple of the RV parks here. We opted to boondock on a street one block from the beach because they were more than we wanted to pay.
Sayulita is an interesting little town. There are lots of North Americans living here. We talked to one young couple and they said about 40% of the population were expats! Needless to say, most of the restaurant and shop workers speak English, and the US dollar is widely accepted. We were also surprised to see so many yoga studios in one little town!
Tomorrow Sayulita’s Third Annual Surf Competition begins. Tobey talked to some people from Colorado who are wintering here and they said it might not be good because the waves haven’t been big. We saw lots of people in the water and it did look pretty calm.
We had fish tacos at a couple different places for dinner. The ones from the street vendor were MUCH better than the ones we had in one of the restaurants – and cheaper! Tobey is crazy about fish tacos, so we may have to hang out and watch the surf competition until lunch time so we can sample more.
Apparently there is an international travel agents convention in Puerto Vallarta this summer and the Mexican government is working hard to improve Mexico’s image. They want people to see how clean and safe Mexico is so they are spending lots of money making improvements. As we walked through the city center here today, every block had roadwork going on. As a matter of fact, our camping guide book gave instructions to turn on the first dirt street as we entered the village and there weren’t any dirt streets, they have all been paved!
