We took a walk into town today to see some of the changes. Tulum is growing!
Last year this was a site we passed by several times on our way into town. This is what it looks like today!
It is a new hospital, but it sits empty. According to a few newspaper articles, it is lacking equipment and is still only 20% complete as of October 2016. http://sipse.com/novedades/hospital-comunitario-esta-a-un-20-de-concluir-pacientes-de-otros-municipios-centrosdesalud-atencion-de-emergencias-217398.htmlLike so many areas, lack of money and bureaucracy slow things down! The community will benefit when this is completed. We noticed several changes on the main street – different restaurants and new shops. We stopped at a restaurant on the way back to the apartment. It has been several years since we had eaten there and it hadn’t changed much. You walk up to the kitchen area and tell them what you want, then they fix your plate. I had chicken mole and Tobey had a shrimp soup. He had to pick the shrimp out and peel them! It was $205 pesos for our lunch. ($10 USD) We both decided that the food wasn’t so great, so we don’t need to go back again. We had a lazy afternoon reading and playing cards. We plan to watch a movie tonight. Life is good in Mexico!
