Happy Birthday to my Mom, today!
Last night we took our laundry to the lavandaria then walked to the square and got dessert. This is a kind of crispy crepe filled with nutella and cajeta (caramel) and it was delicious!Today we hung out in town, going for a bike ride in the neighborhoods on the west side of the main street. (Our apartment is on the east side.) We passed two more of the encampments of the 2 de octobre occupation. I have been trying to research this and figure out what is going on. My Spanish isn’t very good and the translations are a bit hard to follow. I think the government had promised some sort of housing, then when the people came – more than 1500, they refused to leave even though they don’t have permission to build, for fear they won’t get the housing. This is one of the websites I found about the occupation: https://www.quequi.com.mx/crece-la-invasion-la-colonia-2-octubre/
We continued to the barbacoa stand to have tortas (sandwiches) for lunch. They were big, but not as good as the tacos barbacoa. Two sandwiches and two soft drinks was $210 pesos ($10 USD).
A stop at the grocery store rounded out our bicycle trip before heading home. We spend a quiet afternoon reading and hanging out. We picked up our clean and folded laundry – 4kg for $60 pesos ($3USD) and split an ice cream $65 pesos before coming home. Tomorrow will probably be a beach day … so many choices!
