January 8, 2019 Wittmann to Scottsdale, AZ

Day 8 Cross Country Bike Ride

Tobey worked on his bike yesterday and replaced his phone and camera mounts. He also noticed his tire was flat and determined he had picked up a piece of wire near the end of their ride on Sunday, so he patched that, too. This morning, the tire was low again, so we stopped at a bike shop on our way back to Wittmann where he was going to resume his route. He had the bike shop change the tube and bought a heavier-duty tube than the ones that were on his bike. While they were working on his bike, they noticed the chain was failing, so that was changed out, too. The ten minute stop turned into 90, but he was ready to hit the road with necessary repairs done!

I dropped him off at the corner of Center and Harding Streets in Wittmann around 10:30 am. Sunny skies, warm temperatures, and no winds made for a great ride! Tobey said he really wished that Tyler had been with him to enjoy this day’s ride which was the best so far. Tobey rode totally unsupported today on his way back to our my mom’s house. I took advantage of being really close to my sister’s house and stopped to visit with her for a couple hours. On Highway 74 I went by the beautiful saguaro cactus and desert landscape. Tobey rode 53 miles today in about 4 hours and was still smiling when he arrived!

This is a link that will show Tobey’s route. https://ridewithgps.com/events/71165-tobey-s-coast-to-coast-ride-2018-2019

On the left side of the map, it shows day by day stop and start points so you can look at each day’s route. OR you can scroll to the bottom of the day-to-day and there is a box that says “Show all on Map”. If you click that, it will change the map view to show all days traveled so far.

Today also included laundry, grocery shopping, reloading the RV and cuddling with our dog, Penny. We are leaving her with our moms in Scottsdale and will miss seeing her during the trip, but know she will be loved and spoiled!
