January 22, 2019 - Marathon to Sanderson, TX

Day 22 Cross Country Bike Trip

Before taking off this morning we spotted this beautiful red bird on a wire near the library. We think it is a scarlet tanager, but if you have a better idea, please let me know!
We headed to the Gage Gardens before leaving town, the guys on their bikes, the women driving the RVs. The gardens cover 27 acres, just south of the railroad tracks going through Marathon. We meandered around the quarter-mile walking trail through the meticulously landscaped garden. Phil even tried his skills at the 9-hole putting green before they were back on their bikes!

Headwinds and hills were a couple words to describe the morning today.
Fortunately, after lunch, the wind started to shift to a crossing and tail wind and the guys started their downhill descent!

We got to Sanderson, Texas around 3pm. We are staying in the courthouse parking lot with permission from the sheriff. The library is just across the parking lot, so we have WIFI again tonight.

Today’s ride was 55.5 miles. Here is the link: https://ridewithgps.com/trips/31125337

This is a link that will show Tobey’s route.

On the left side of the map, it shows day by day stop and start points so you can look at each day’s route.
OR you can scroll to the bottom of the day-to-day and there is a box that says “Show all on Map”. If you click that, it will change the map view to show all days traveled so far.
