We decided to take a chance with the weather and go to the beach – and it turned out to be a good choice. We left the apartment shortly after 11 to head to the collectivo. We stopped for lunch at this little restaurant Antojitos Yamileth along the way. It was busy with lots of locals so we figured it must be good – and it was! We had empenadas, 3 total and two drinks, and it was only $57 pesos (about $3US).
We made it to the beach but on the beach road, there was a HUGE sink hole that took one entire lane of the road. It looked like it had just recently happened, but was roped off. When we came back, they were busy working on filling the hole with great boulders, the jackhammering them to break them into smaller pieces. The traffic “beach-bound” was backed up about a mile – glad we were going the other direction! I am sure they are hoping to get it fixed today.
It was windy today and we saw several kitesurfers enjoying the waves and wind. It was fun to watch, but neither of us thought we could do it.
Others had been busy making sand pyramids on the beach. We won’t have to go visit any Mayan ruins – we saw them today!!
We also enjoyed watching these two dogs playing with their owner. He was tossing a coconut and they would race after it and return to him so he could throw it again.
We caught a collectivo about 3 and headed home with a stop for vegetables along the way. The weather is supposed to be similar tomorrow, so who knows what adventure it will bring!
