March 3, 2018 Barra de Potosi to Zihuatanejo, Mexico

We took the kayak out into the lagoon again this morning for about an hour. You can see the opening out to the ocean at the top right of this picture. I still need more practice before I am ready to venture out to sea!!It was very calm and peaceful on our trip this morning although the fish were still jumping like crazy! We saw several fishermen along the shore as we were paddling. We had seen these guys on our way into the lagoon and stopped on our way out to see what they had caught. They were using this net to go after crabs but the fellow in green caught a small manta ray! He couldn’t wait to pass it off the the older guy and did a quick move back closer to shore! This guy was happy to show us his “catch” before he released it back into the water. After getting the kayak put up and ready to go, we watched this little hummingbird in the tree just outside our window before taking off. We couldn’t figure out what kind of tree it was, but the fruit looked a little like apples, but they were in clusters of 2 , 3, or 4 bulbs all connected together. Anyone have an idea what it is?? We decided we were heading to El Manglar RV Park in Zihuatanejo today and made the long journey (17 miles!) in just over an hour. Okay, we stopped for gas and lunch on the way!

The park isn’t huge – it will hold about 10 RVs and we are tucked between a couple of rigs. We are able to use the electricity here which is a bonus so we can have air conditioning. It has been very hot and humid. There is a small lagoon between the RV park and beach – next to the restaurant where a crocodile hangs out. He was here when we camped here six years ago, too! Hopefully, I can get a better picture tomorrow. We spent a while walking on the busy beach. There are a lot of gringos here – many from Canada – and the beach offered all kinds of activities. We weren’t the only beach walkers today!Zihuatanejo is a resort city on Mexico’s Pacific Coast, northwest of Acapulco. It’s known for its beaches, like the sweeping Playa La Ropa where we are parked. Much of the city is built on the hills that surround the bays. This new resort is being built right on the beach. We grilled steaks for dinner tonight then went back to the beach to catch the sunset. Another beautiful day in Mexico!
