Mexico RV Trip 2012 - un viaje mas grande – January 5, Day 10, San Miguel de Allende

Today we went to a Lions Club meeting here in San Miguel de Allende. Because Tobey is in the Lions Club at home, he thought it would be fun to meet some fellow Lions here. According to their webpage, they meet the first & third Thursdays at noon, so we were in luck. Hans, the owner of the RV park, made a couple of phone calls for us to confirm their location and it turned out to only be a few blocks from here at Francesco's Restaurant. This was their social, not business meeting, which was fun for us. We enjoyed having lunch with them and hearing about their service and fund raising projects. They were a lively group; their members are all expats from the US or Canada.
After lunch we checked out Parque Benito Juarez which had lovely walking paths, a large playground area, and basketball courts.

We continued to the main plaza where the town was getting ready for the celebration of the Three Kings (January 6), the holiday where children of all ages receive Christmas gifts and candy. Tonight, we were told, the children release balloons with their wishes attached into the air. There were lots of activities and we chucked at all of the children playing on the inflatables! Back home there would be someone regulating how many kids could be playing on them at a time, as well as collecting money to enjoy the activities! Here, it seemed like a free-for-all!
After dinner we walked back to the square, but we arrived too late for most of the festivities. We did see some of the children waiting in line to see the Three Kings, much like our kids wait to see Santa.
We were told there was a parade and can only guess these girls dressed as Disney characters were part of it.
One last view of La Parroquia before we headed back to the RV for the night. Tomorrow we hope to get an early start as we bid farewell to San Miguel de Allende.

Kids are the same everywhere, aren't they. How nice to share ideas with fellow Lions join in some local celebrations.
