What a night! We are going to bed early every night since the guys are exhausted and we are rising early. Last night between 9 and 10, the winds really picked up and the rain started. Tobey went out and helped Bob put his rainfly on the tent and get it secured before Bob came in and slept on the sofa in our RV. It just poured, and the thunder and lightning made it difficult to sleep. Around 11, Phil and Marcia heard Bob’s tent flapping in the winds, so they went out and re-secured the tent to the ground. Our little RV shook and rocked with the wind. None of us slept very well, so it made for a difficult start this morning.
The guys took off about 7:20 leaving the halfway point (approximately 250 miles) and fought strong headwinds for the first 1-1/2 hours.
Despite the winds, and heat – it got over 93 degrees this afternoon – they made great time. We stopped at Centennial City Park in Shoshoni for lunch and a well-deserved break at noon. Marcia, Bob, and I walked over to the Exxon Station, which is also the ONLY convenience store in town. Tobey and I needed milk and it cost $4.09 for 1/2 gallon!!! Gas was only $2.20 a gallon, so 4 times the cost of our gas when I filled up!!!!
After lunch the guys headed north on Highway 20 up the Wind River Canyon. It is a beautiful drive, but was very hot. Sixteen miles later, we arrived at our camping spot for the day at Boysen State Park. Everyone – including Penny - made a quick change and into the lake to cool off.
Penny wore herself out chasing the ball in the cool water!
We enjoyed sitting under the RV canopy looking out at the lake.
We had dinner outside at the picnic table and are relaxing tonight while enjoying a cool breeze.
They covered 72 miles today and are all feeling stronger – even though they are tired. Tomorrow will be a walk in the park for them since we are only going as far as Thermopolis – less than 20 miles away! We are going to take advantage of the hot springs and have a rest day.
