February 12, 2016 - Tulum, Mexico

Today was a walking day … and walk we did! Over 7 miles!!

Barbara told us about a place not far from here that is like a beautiful park, but they have yoga classes and retreats there, so we went to check it out. It is “Holistica, Tulum.”
The entrance to the grounds was pretty and once we got inside we were greeted by this sign.
We were free to wander the grounds which are carved out of the jungle. There were small cabanas, buildings for yoga, and what looked like masssage rooms, as well as a large dining area. It looked like a great place for a retreat.
We made our way back to the apartment to pick up the backpack and then off to the grocery store. We wanted to compare prices at the Super San Francisco to the Chedraui Market so we headed to the other side of town on the main street.

Tobey also had read about a place to have lunch next to the Super San Francisco that was supposed to be really good. Well, this is where we had lunch, but it wasn’t the place he had read about. The prices were reasonable, and the food was okay, not grand. The search will continue!

We looked around at Super San Francisco and ended up going back to Chedraui which has a bigger selection and is less expensive on most items. They have lots of pre-packaged meat items, but you can also just pick your meat or fish yourself. The bags are there for you to put in however much you want – not the butcher!
Much of the bakery is the same way. There are trays and tongs for the customers to pick up what they want, then you go to a central counter where they price and bag your choices.

One of the big differences this year from our stay here in 2014 is that the Chedraui now takes credit cards. It makes it much easier not having to carry so much cash!

Walking back to the apartment with groceries in tow, we made one more stop – for ice cream! There are two of these shops in town and it was pretty darn good – good enough to give us the energy for the final push home!
When we got back, we had walked 9.7 km – just over 6 miles! This is a map of our route. https://goo.gl/maps/UKnnF1nYViG2

After dinner tonight we decided to go back to the main square to see if there was anything going on – another 1-1/2 miles roundtrip – and all for nothing! Oh well, good exercise for us.

The weather is supposed to be good tomorrow so it must be a beach day!
