January 8, 2016 - Phoenix, Arizona

The College Football National Championship is being held in Phoenix on Monday. Along with the football game between the Clemson TIgers and Alabama Crimson Tide, ESPN and the city of Phoenix are sponsoring several events for the fans. Free music is one of the events that was of interest to Tobey and me.

We took the lightrail from Tempe – about 10 minutes from here to downtown Phoenix for $4.00 roundtrip. It was great for us not having to drive downtown and find parking because the lightrail station lets off right at the Convention Center.
All of the advertising said the music started at 5 pm, so we arrived about 4:30 hoping we could get a spot. We were shocked how few people were there! Chick fil-a was giving away free sandwiches to everyone – along with a giftcard for another sandwich at their store! Nice for us – free dinner!

We walked around and visited all of the vendor/sponsor booths. At one we took a brief survey and Tobey won wristbands which allowed us into the even more up-close VIP section!

We talked to a woman at the information booth and found out that the music was going to be late – at least an hour.

We were surprised to find out the music lineup included 1-1/2 hours of DJ music and country singer David Nail before The Band Perry was going to play! Oh, well! Neither of us had ever heard of David Nail, but he was pretty good.

Between David Nail and The Band Perry, the DJ came back to entertain while they re-set the stage. Kimberly definitely has a voice that is fantastic. Tobey thought the brothers, Neil and Reid, were just “eye candy” for the female audience and that she carries the show! After the concert we enjoyed the fireworks and then caught the lightrail for home.

We’re looking forward to heading back downtown Sunday evening when the music headliner will be John Mellencamp.
