Tobey got up early (6:45 AM) to take a picture of the sunrise, which was beautiful! He very kindly let me sleep since we had decided to give the hill a try today. The trail is supposed to be marked with rock cairns, but we had difficulty finding the first one. Thankfully, after trying three different areas, two women from Austria came down to swim and they showed us the start which was much closer to the water than what others had told us.Once we got going, the cairns were easy to spot, like the one in the picture to the left.
Unfortunately, I must have been dehydrated and started getting dizzy, almost from the start. We had to stop several times for me to rest and let my head catch up with the rest of me. About 3/4 of the way up, I needed to stop, so I sat and waited for Tobey. He continued to the next hill, then came back, just short of reaching the top, because he was worried about leaving me. This is me waiting, and the picture below is the view from the point where Tobey turned around. We continued down the hill and had a great panorama of the hill and bay. We spotted a couple of whales spouting in the distance, but haven’t seen any close in since we first arrived.Tobey was still smiling as we made our way down the hill, even though we were both very hot! When we got to the bottom, we both made a beeline for the water to cool off. It was chilly, but felt really good after our climb. We took a slow meander back to the RV for lunch.
After lunch, and about a quart of tea each, we rested and played cards, then went to the far south end of the beach and took another swim. The beach is sandier and further from the fishing area which made it more pleasant for swimming.
Ron, one of the guys we met who is camped a little in front of us went fishing today and caught some trigger fish. He fileted them and gave us enough for a couple meals. We fried them tonight for dinner and they were delicious! We both liked it better than the red snapper!
We are trying to decided when to leave here – probably Thursday. We haven’t had cell service since early Saturday and are starting to need some groceries and water, so will have to face that horrible road. Oh well, you play, you pay!
