We had a debate about what time it was in Cody last night. My phone was saying we were still in Mountain time and Tobey’s was saying Central Time zone. Normally, that isn’t a big deal – unless you are trying to set your alarm clock so you can be up and riding your bike at 7:30 in the morning. We went with Tobey’s time … and it was wrong. The alarm went off at 5:45 am and it was DARK outside! After rolling over for a little while we got up and got started. Marcia and Phil thought the same thing when they got up. (Tobey and Phil were both convinced we were in the Central time zone.)ANYWAY … up and on the road with much cooler temperatures, some cloud cover, and a tailwind. They couldn’t ask for much more.As they were leaving the camp spot heading for the trail we spotted a phone booth. A working phone booth! You certainly don’t see those much anymore. The trail lasted a couple blocks before they headed back to Highway 20. The hills were smaller and not much traffic so they were pretty happy guys.We had our first stop in Kilgore, 15 miles down the road. Marcia and I took a walk while we waited and were surprised to see another phone booth! They tried the trail again but it wasn’t in good condition and didn’t last too long, so back to the highway.Another eleven miles down the road we checked in at Crookston for a snack. The guys were loving the ride! I appreciate that Phil took pictures of farms as they were riding along.Next stop – Valentine City Park for the night. They were here before lunch after a 39 mile ride today. The temperature was below 80 when they arrived and didn’t get hot until mid-afternoon.We are camped next to a small stream and the fee is only $5.00 per night – and there is a nice shower house with lots of hot water. Tobey, Marcia, and I went back into town to use the internet and do some grocery shopping before heading back for naps and showers.
The three of us also took a small walk around the park area across the stream. That was a mistake! Lots and lots of sand burrs. We plucked the worst of them off our legs – yes, they attach to your skin very quickly! When we got back, Tobey took the tweezers to his shoes. We certainly didn’t need those in the RV!After dinner we played a game of Skip Bo and I was the come from behind winner! As Tobey says, you have to get lucky once in a while.
It has started to rain and the forecast is for possible hail overnight. They were hoping to get an early start but we will see what the weather brings!
