It was a beautiful morning when we got up so we took the kayak for a paddle. Apparently there was a fishing tournament of some kind and we saw a couple boats with some pretty serious looking fishermen. We went around the larger island and back through the marina area. After breakfast we packed up the kayak and loaded up to head down the road. Tobey and I did chuckle a little when we thought about our trip here yesterday. On his bike trip in 2016 it took us five days to get this far!We stopped at Legend Rock to see the petroglyphs. There is a 1/3 mile loop with markers telling about the different petroglyphs. The thunderbird is believed to be 6000-8000 years old while the one below is believed to be 11,000 years old!It was an interesting stop.
Just outside of Cody, we stopped at the dam and went to the visitor’s center. It was interesting to read the information of how the dam was constructed. It was interesting to note that we were about the only people wearing masks because of Covid!
On the upstream side of the dam, logs float down and wedge themselves along the dam. In the visitor’s center we saw the sign about how they remove the debris. It would be fun to watch.Continuing on from the dam, we wound our way to Threemile Campground, aptly named because it is located three miles from Yellowstone! We are sharing a campsite tonight and plan an early departure to Yellowstone in the morning.Signs were posted about bear activity in the area. While it wasn’t a bear, we did have one visitor shortly after dinner. All in all, it was a good day!
