February 18, 2024 - Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

We had a lazy morning before heading into town for lunch. We went to Tacos del Rey and shared their lunch special - 5 tacos al pastor for 90 pesos. With a soft drink and a horchata, it came to 160 pesos - or almost $10. Prices in Cabo are not as cheap as they used to be!

We headed to the beach for a while after lunch. It was much quieter today, but we didn't stay too long because neither of us wanted to get too much sun. Next stop was the Natural History Museum. Admission was $2 USD per person. It's not a large museum, but it was interesting. Some of the signage is in English so that was helpful. It is well laid out and starts at "the beginning" with speculation of how the earth began and the Mayan history of the planets as well as some history of the Spanish religious influence. We spent about an hour which also included watching a video. There were fossils and a few early relics. Of course, I am always drawn to the sewing machines!

We got home around 3:30 and took showers and relaxed. Tobey decided to head back into town to get a massage. I didn't go with him and should have. His Spanish isn't too good and he got taken. He was supposed to be getting a 90 minute massage, but she stopped after 45 minutes and charged him the 90 minute price. Next time I will go along. I met him down the hill for dinner at Mariscos Paseo del Centario. I had the garlic fish and he had the coconut fish. Mine was good, but his was better!

February 17, 2024 - Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Our whale watching excursion was this morning so we hiked down to the marina to the Caborey tour boat. Along the way, we passed this sea lion and gull hanging out by the fishing boats.
This was our mega-whale watching boat! We probably would have chosen something smaller, but it was free, so we go with the flow! Check-in time was 8:30 and we cast off at 9:00 am. They did have a buffet breakfast and open bar included. After breakfast, we spent all of our time on the deck where those folks are standing.
As we left the marina, we headed out to "El Arco", the arch. The distinctive landmark of Cabo San Lucas is the rugged taffy-colored rock formation that erupts from the sea at the tip of the Baja Peninsula, where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez. The area where these rocks formed is also known as Land's End. If you followed a line south from this spot, you would not touch land again until you reached the South Pole!
If you look at the rock below, it looks like the Baja California Peninsula upside down - IF you are at the correct angle! From here it looks like a bunny!


In the picture below you can see it a little better off the very left of the rocks. If you take a smaller boat or water taxi to the beach there you can see it much better.

There were SOOO many boats out whale watching this morning it was crazy! Every time someone spotted a whale, it was off to the races trying to catch up to it.

We picked up some groceries for lunch and hiked up the hill. These two cars were parked next to each other. Quite interesting! The VW had pompoms attached to it and lots of stickers!

The Caddie was a 6-door model.

We spent some time up by the rooftop pool this afternoon, then I let Tobey beat me at gin - again! We decided to try one of the local restaurants we had gone by a few times for dinner tonight. Needless to say, we had a hard time remembering which street it was on! We did pass by some interesting sights along the way. This dog was just watching everyone go by!

Finally, we reached our destination. Not fancy to look at ... and they were getting ready to close. The only thing they still had on the menu that we could order were quesabirrias which came with soup, so we did. The soup was quite spicy and the sandwiches were pretty bland. I'm not sure if we will go back to try the tacos or not - there are too many restaurants to choose from.


We're in for the night and haven't made plans for tomorrow so stay tuned!

February 16, 2024 - Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

I said never again, yet I found myself on another presentation this morning. It was a beautiful property, but no, we did not buy. They gave us a lovely breakfast and some USD for visiting, then we were on our way back to Cabo San Lucas. After lunch, it was swimsuits and sunscreen then a walk to Medano Beach. It was a beautiful afternoon and we enjoyed just sitting and watching all the activities. All of the resorts and bars along the beach had music and activities and the local tourist "junk" vendors were prolific! We are both good at saying, "No, gracias."

We could not see the famous "arch" from here, but had fun watching all of the water taxis taking folks from the beach to the yachts.

It was fun watching the boats coming back into the marina - and the pelicans enjoyed the smaller boats, too!

Around 5, we decided to head back into town and find a nice restaurant for dinner. We ended up at La Dolce, an Italian restaurant. We had a really nice waiter and he kept us supplied with hot bread. We ended up sharing a salad and spaghetti dish that had shrimp and bacon along with the pasta and sauce. It was very good and we were stuffed. I can't imagine eating the full portion!

It was a chilly walk home since we didn't take jackets and the wind had picked up, but we made it. Tomorrow morning we will have an early start since we booked a whale watching trip, so good night!

February 15, 2024 - Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

We had planned to walk to the Natural History Museum this morning but today started off rainy so we stayed in and read, instead. It cleared a little around noon so we headed out to forage for food! We walked in the opposite direction from town and found a local restaurant and decided to give it a try. The tacos were pretty basic and they didn't have much in the way of "dressing it up", but the meat was tasty.

The waitresses spoke NO ENGLISH and the menu was all in Spanish. We ordered three different types of tacos - all sheep - different cuts, but they all tasted the same. Afterwards, we walked into town to pick up some fruit for breakfast. We passed one bar and I loved the sign!

We hike back up the hill and played cards - Tobey beat me again!!! - and read until it was time to go back to town for dinner. We were treated to a beautiful sunset on the way.

Tonight we ate at Los Claros, a place we have been to on previous trips. At first I didn't recognize the building because it is now painted yellow, not orange.

We each got a shrimp and fish taco. They have lots of toppings and crema to dress them up and we were both full.

After dinner it was another hike back to the condo. We figure we walk a minimum of two miles each time we head into "el centro" plus any "sight seeing" along the way, so we are getting our exercise. The forecast is for warmer and sunnier weather so we are looking forward to FINALLY wearing shorts and not jeans - and maybe be able to go to the beach.

February 14, 2024 - Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Happy Valentine's Day!

We went to a "vacation club" presentation this morning ... aka, time share pitch. It wasn't horrible; we didn't buy, and we received breakfast, massages for two, whale watching trip for two, and two Cabo t-shirts. The weather was pretty cool this morning, so why not?

We had lunch back at our condo, hung out and read, then walked into town for our massages. They did an okay job, but we both agreed that our massage people at home are better. Neither of us was super hungry, so we picked up pizza to go on the way home.

It had to be one of the more interesting pizzas I have ever had. It was a "Margarita Special." It had tomatoes, goat cheese, basil and walnuts on it. The walnuts added an interesting twist to the flavor.

We have tried walking on a different street every time we head into town and back. This electric pole would definitely not fly back home!!

Tobey beat me at gin again. There's always tomorrow, I guess! Until then, enjoy your night.

February 13, 2024 - Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

We had a lazy start to the day - both of us sleeping in until after 8:00 am! It was great. It was a little cool when we walked into town around 10:30 - about 65 degrees - but it warmed up quickly and we shed our windbreakers. It was fun to just walk along and check out different shops. We made our way to Gardenias for lunch. We have eaten here on different trips and it was as good, as usual!

Tobey had the carne asada burrito and I had one grilled shimp and one breaded shrimp taco.


Tummies filled, we continued our walk along Medano Beach before heading back to our condo. I couldn't see the name of the ship that was in port, but there were lots of folks in town from the ship.

We didn't realize how hilly Cabo was from the times we have been here before because we usually stayed down in the tourist "downtown" area. Our condo is over a mile up several hills from the main street, so we were both happy to get back and take our shoes off! I changed into my swimsuit and headed to the rooftop pool to read. The water is NOT heated, so, NO, I did not swim! Tobey joined me and we hung out until the clouds completely rolled in and it got too chilly.

We enjoyed naps and showers before going back into town for dinner tonight. We ate at Restaurant El Pescador. We had been there once before and it was better this time. I enjoyed the coconut shrimp and Tobey had the garlic fish filet. There was so much food, we brought half of it back and will enjoy it for lunch tomorrow. 


Another jaunt up the hills and we are in for the evening. Tobey beat me at gin tonight. Oh well, maybe I will win tomorrow! It was still a good day!

February 12, 2024 - Fort Collins, CO to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

We had an early morning wake-up call (4:20am!) as we headed out of Fort Collins for the Denver airport for a getaway to Cabo today. It was surprising how much traffic was on the road at that early hour, but we made it with plenty of time.

Our flights from Denver to Dallas, then on to Cabo went smoothly and we arrived early. Of course, the gate was still occupied with an outbound plane, so we waited! Our shuttle to Cabo San Lucas from the airport took about an hour. After checking in to our vacation rental, we headed out for dinner. It was about a 15-20 minute walk to the downtown (touristy) area but worth it. We had dinner at Tacos al Piasa. We each had a taco al pastor (pork) and carne asada (steak). The carne asada was better, but both were pretty tasty.

We headed on to the mall where we went to the grocery store for breakfast items before going back to our condo. We are looking forward to kicking back and relaxing and hopefully, soaking up some sun.
